mindful MATERIALS releases CMF Prioritization v1.0, unifying the language of material sustainability information

Faced with more than 600 green certifications and fragmented data, mindful MATERIALS releases Common Materials Framework Prioritization v1.0, using a 5-category impact hierarchy and a common language to help design and procurement parties align on material sustainability information.

According to a United Nations Environment Programme report, the buildings and construction sector is the world's largest source of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 37% of global emissions.

In response to a fragmented material information landscape, mindful MATERIALS developed the Common Materials Framework to provide design professionals and manufacturers with a common language for aligning sustainability information.

Chądzyński notes that the materials and buildings field currently has more than 600 green product certifications, disclosures or ecolabels.

The framework was formed through cross-industry collaboration among architects, owners, manufacturers and ecolabel parties, and can screen the criteria of more than 100 certifications in the built environment.

Launched as CMF Prioritization v1.0, the framework is divided into 5 impact categories, each with subcategories centered on sustainability in the built environment.

For designers who want to try the framework, Chądzyński recommends starting with a pilot project or a portion of a project.
