EDspaces 2026 Focuses on the Education Market: Flexible Furniture Opportunities Amid Facility Budget Constraints

EDspaces 2026 will be held October 28–30 in Kansas City, with the industry focused on educational space design. GAO reports show aging school district facilities and rising construction costs, with demand for flexible, multi-purpose furniture coexisting alongside budget constraints.

EDspaces is scheduled for October 28–30 at the Kansas City Convention Center, bringing together school and district leaders, higher education planners, architects, designers, dealers, facilities teams and manufacturers.

The EDspaces 2026 program is built around the relationship between the physical environment and learning outcomes, with key areas including comfort, activity, air quality, lighting, acoustics, cognition, connection and belonging.

Office furniture experience can transfer to educational settings, but success depends on understanding the unique needs of students, teachers and educational institutions rather than simply repackaging office products.

A September 2026 U.S. Government Accountability Office report shows that 47% of public school districts experienced long-term facility problems during the 2024-25 school year.

The GAO report states that from January 2016 to January 2026, the cost of new school building construction rose 58%.

For designers, manufacturers and furniture dealers, the opportunity lies in helping school districts reconfigure classrooms, libraries, media centers, staff spaces and team areas without rebuilding buildings entirely.
